Here Bajaj's experience with the Dominar could come in handy. They just need to tweak it for some off road use, but that bike strikes a decent balance for touring.

I’m guessing they’ll go the on road comfort route. A first attempt at an ADV is safer, and it's what most buyers will actually be using it for.

That will go a long way if they get the ergonomics right for standing up riding. If it's comfortable for light trails then full off road capability is not needed.

Tire choice will be crucial. They have to choose something which is effective on tarmac but also copes with some muck and gravel.

I doubt it will be a huge thing. The Pulsars with ADV styling and features will appeal to a different type of rider than the regular Pulsars.

It might eat into Dominar sales a bit but that’s probably intentional. In that segment Bajaj needs a fresher offering.

Cannibalization is overblown. The more options, the more potential customers overall. It's not a zero-sum game.

I'm afraid it will confuse things. Bajaj already has too many of such similar models. They don’t need to add more confusion, they need to streamline.

Bringing more people into Bajaj showrooms could actually help other models. Some will visit the Darkstar, but they'll be leaving with a different Bajaj bike that'd be more suitable for them.

The real question is what it will do to KTM sales. Maybe Bajaj are trying to get a piece of that market for themselves with a cheaper option.

The Darkstar doesn't have to be better than the Himalayan, just a little different enough for it to find its own niche. The ADV market is big enough for more than one player.

The Himalayan has history, but it also has reliability problems. If Bajaj can provide similar style with better reliability, they can get a lot of buyers.
