Summary Maruti WagonR Stringray is a bolder, more stylish and aggressive looking version of the regular WagonR. The car belongs to a mid level hatchback with body line of a mini-van. It comes with a 998cc petrol engine which gives out a maximum power of 67 bhp @ 6200 rpm and a torque of 90 Nm @ 3500 rpm. Stringray has a company claimed mileage of 20.15 kmpl. WagonR String Ray has a boot space of 180 litres and it is lightweight at 885 kilograms (Kerb Weight). In the segment of mid level hatchbacks, String Ray is a rival to Hyundai Grand i10 and Volkswagen Polo.

Synopsis

Maruti Suzuki is one of the top automobile companies of the world. Recently, Suzuki launched a sportier variant of this hatchback, Stingray in Japan and in China. Now, the company has launched it in India too with a starting price tag of INR 4.09 lakhs. Maruti has made some major alterations and modifications in to give it a sportier look to attract more customers. It has been placed above the existing model of and below the Ritz in terms of price. Let’s see, what this new hatchback has to add to the existing segment.

Exterior

The exterior of this hatchback has seen a lot of changes which includes a thin front headlamp cluster with projector-beam units, a flat front bonnet, round front fog lights, sporty chrome lining throughout the car, a slimmer front radiator grille with Suzuki logo in middle, newer body colored bumper and electrically adjustable ORVMs with turn indicators, body colored side door handles, impressive side body mouldings, an antenna at rear, 14-inch alloy wheels, stylish tailgate with vertical clear lens tail lights and rear wiper and defogger. The hatchback has a length of 3595mm, width of 1475mm and height of 1660mm as its dimension and has a good wheelbase of 2425mm for a stable ride. It provides a ground clearance of 155mm for a bump free ride and has a kerb weight of 870kgs. It has a fuel tank capacity of 35 litres and a minimum turning radius of 4.6m for easy cruising in city traffic and in tight parking lots.

Interior

The interior of Stingray gives a spacious and luxurious look with its newer color scheme inside, chrome accentuated instrument panel, plush upholstery, silver finished inside door handles, moulded roof lining and stylish needle punch floor carpet, adjustable seats, gear-stick on the dashboard instead of floor, adjustable stylish front and rear seat headrests, luggage parcel tray, sun visor, door trim fabrics, vanity mirror at front, front and rear cabin lamps in three positions and an anti-glare inside rear view mirror. For the utmost comfort of the passengers, it has front and rear power windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs with side indicators, adjustable tilted power steering with audio and other control buttons, remote central locking, remote boot opener, remote fuel filler, reclining and sliding fill flat front seats, 60:40 split rear folding seat, a powerful AC with heater, IP integrated push type left and right cup holders, a spacious dashboard, front passenger under seat tray, a driver side storage space and rear AC vents.

Engine and Gearbox

Maruti Suzuki Stingray has the same petrol engine as its existing model. It is a 998cc, 1.0L, 3-cylinder, 12-valve, DOHC with offset crankshaft, BS-IV compliant, K10 petrol engine with a maximum power of 67 bhp at 6200rpm and a maximum torque of 90 Nm at 3500rpm and has a five speed manual gearbox transmission. It has a top speed of 148 kmph and reaches 0-100 kmph mark in 15.9 seconds with the mileage of 14.2 kmpl in the cities and 18.9 kmpl on the highways (expected figures). There is also the rumour of Maruti releasing CNG and LPG variants for this sportier variant but till then, it will be available in only petrol.

Suspension and Brakes

The sporty variant Stingray has disk brakes at front and drum brakes with 8-inch booster assisted brakes at rear. The suspension system is a McPherson Strut with Coil Spring at front and Isolated Trailing Link with Coil Spring at rear.

Safety Features

For superior safety of passengers, it also has Dual SRS Airbags, collapsible steering column, ABS, front and rear fog lamps, halogen headlamps with levelling device, driver's seat belt warning lamp, rear wiper, washer and defogger, high mounted stop lamp, rear door child lock, intelligent computerized Anti-theft System, front and rear ELR seat belts, energy absorbing structure of hatchback and strong side impact beams.

I buyed stingray 2 months ago over all ok but not tyres. with in 1000kms 1 tyre got burst and another got bubble both in same area near to rim. but tyre company "GOOD YEAR" rejects that complaint. if u planning to buy think of about tyres that is main important part.
