Tata Punch Facelift: 5 Must-Have Features to Beat Hyundai Exter

Tata Punch Facelift: 5 Must-Have Features to Beat Hyundai Exter

The Tata Punch was the very first micro-SUV in India, and it held onto that title for quite a while until the Hyundai Exter came onto the scene in 2023. The Exter was a more appealing option since it had a sleeker look, more functions, and more safety options. Now, Tata is getting ready to release an updated version of the Punch sometime in 2024, but to really stand out, it'll need to borrow some of the cool features from the Tata Punch EV.

Bigger Touchscreen Infotainment System

The current Punch model has a 7-inch touchscreen for its infotainment system, which is smaller than the Exter's 8-inch screen. However, the new Punch EV boasts a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen. It seems like Tata is making screens bigger in its newer models, so we can expect the same for the updated Punch.

Wireless Car Technology

Right now, the Hyundai Exter offers wired connections for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, even in its fanciest versions. If the new Punch wants to stay ahead, it'll have to offer wireless versions of these systems. Since the Punch EV's 10.25-inch screen already supports wireless connections, it's likely that these features will be added to the new model. It would also be cool if the updated Punch came with a wireless charging pad.

Fully Digital Driver's Display

Another thing that could make the new Punch even cooler than the Exter is a fully digital driver's display. Right now, both the Punch and the Exter have partially digital displays, but the new Tata SUV could get a fully digital one, maybe even a 10.25-inch screen like the Punch EV.

360-degree Camera

When it comes to safety, the Exter has a bit of an edge with six airbags as standard and a dual-camera dash cam. For the new Punch to up its safety game from its current 5-star rating, it'll need to include six airbags. To really top the Exter, it could borrow the 360-degree camera feature from the Punch EV.

Blind Spot Monitor

On top of the 360-degree camera, which is super helpful for navigating tight spots, the updated Punch could also get a blind spot monitor from the Punch EV. This feature lets you see the camera feed from the left side mirror on the main display when you're using the indicator, so you'll know if there's someone in your blind spot.

Launch Timeline

We're expecting the new Tata Punch to hit the market by June 2025, and it'll likely start at around Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom). But if you want all the fancy features, you might have to pay a bit more for the higher-end models. It'll still be a direct competitor to the Hyundai Exter, and it'll also offer an alternative to other compact SUVs like the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Citroen C3, and Maruti Ignis
