Tata Nexon Achieves 5-Star Global NCAP Rating with New Testing Protocol

The Tata Nexon has once again proven its mettle by securing a 5-star rating from Global NCAP, under the more stringent norms introduced in 2022. Its previous 5-star rating from 2018 is enhanced by this achievement. The latest Nexon facelift, launched in September 2023, underwent rigorous testing alongside the Harrier and Safari facelifts, showcasing Tata Motors' commitment to safety.

Mohan Savarkar, chief product officer at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, expressed satisfaction with the planned and executed tests, mentioning the possibility of participation in the BNCAP tests. Both the Harrier and Safari had previously received 5-star ratings in Bharat NCAP crash tests.

The 5-star GNCAP rating applies to Nexons manufactured after August 8, 2023, specifically for the ICE versions. There's also consideration for crash testing the Nexon EV in the future, according to Savarkar's remarks.

Safety Performance and Ratings

The Tata Nexon secured 5 stars for both adult and child occupancy, achieving impressive scores in Global NCAP's evaluation. It attained 32.22 points for adult occupancy protection and 44.52 points for child occupancy protection, marking it as one of the safest vehicles tested in the 'Safer Cars For India' campaign.

In crash tests, the Nexon demonstrated commendable protection in front impact, side impact, and side pole impact scenarios, although there were slight concerns regarding chest protection in the side pole test. Notably, the Nexon facelift surpassed its predecessor in child occupancy protection earning a significant improvement from its previous 3-star rating in 2018.

Comparison with Harrier and Safari

The Harrier and Safari facelifts also achieved 5-star ratings for both adult and child occupancy, with slightly higher scores compared to the Nexon. Tata Motors has always prioritized safety throughout its entire vehicle lineup, as seen by the 5-star Bharat NCAP ratings these SUVs received.

Safety Features

Equipped with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), seatbelt reminders, ISOFIX anchors, and a passenger airbag disabling switch as standard, the Nexon range prioritizes safety. Its comprehensive safety features are further highlighted by the fact that it satisfies UN127 and GTR9 criteria for pedestrian protection.
