Recently, we found an image of another electric scooter caught on fire in Andheri, Mumbai. It is noteworthy that this fire incident is the fourth one in the past four months. Such incidents indicate that the government should enact stringent laws to prevent them. In the image is the Shara Group’s EVOLS X1 scooter that entered the Indian electric vehicle market in June 2019.

This company is run by Subroto Roy, and earlier this year, it announced a collaboration with Gwalior-based SuperEco Automotive to manufacture new vehicles. As part of this collaboration, the company is going to produce 50,000 two-wheelers and 6,000 three-wheelers. The Shara EVOLS X1 e-scooter is currently priced at Rs. 80,000 and comes equipped with a 1.9kWh lithium-ion battery and a 250W motor, which offers a max range of 80kms.

While speaking of this occurrence, a three-minute-long video surfaced on social media and shows that the scooter was in the parking area when this happened. There was smoke and flames rolling out of the scooter before it drowned in the intense fire.

Moreover, SuperEco stated on the incident that they were scrutinising the whole matter but didn’t share any updates yet. However, a spokesperson from SuperEco cited that they only produce vehicles, and the batteries used in the scooters are supplied by a third party.

According to ETAuto, the company said that they will bring the matter to the battery supplier and find the real cause behind such a hazardous occurrence. It also needs to be mentioned that prior to the X1 scooter mishap, the same thing had already taken place with two Pure e-scooters and one from Okinawa.

With the burgeoning trend of EVs, a plethora of companies have entered the EV segment. But the need of the hour is that they focus on the safety of the vehicle owners.
