New Maserati GranTurismo Set to Launch in India by June 2024

Italian luxury carmaker Maserati is gearing up to make a grand entrance into the Indian market with the launch of the second-generation Maserati GranTurismo and its all-electric Folgore variant in 2024. The timeline for the launches is set between April and June 2024 for the GranTurismo and between October and December 2024 for the GranTurismo Folgore.

V6 Power Dynamics of the New GranTurismo

The all-new Maserati GranTurismo, unveiled in October last year, retains the iconic design elements of its predecessor while riding on a new platform. Powering the GranTurismo is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine positioned just behind the front axle. In the Modena trim, it generates 490hp and 600Nm, while the performance-oriented Trofeo trim boasts 550hp and 650Nm. Both trims feature standard all-wheel drive, enabling the Modena to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 3.9 seconds and the Trofeo in 3.5 seconds.

Interior and Exterior Highlights

Maserati has yet to disclose the available trims for the Indian market. The GranTurismo, known for its 2+2 grand tourer design, offers six color options in international markets and the cabin design aligns with Maserati's signature style, reminiscent of the Grecale SUV.

Pricing and Market Positioning

While pricing details are yet to be revealed, the Maserati GranTurismo is expected to compete in the premium luxury segment, potentially rivaling the Bentley Continental GT, which is priced upwards of Rs 3 crore, ex-showroom.

The All-Electric GranTurismo Folgore

The GranTurismo Folgore, an all-electric variant, features a 92.5kWh T-shaped battery (83kWh usable) powering three motors—one on the front axle and two at the rear. The total output of 760hp propels this 2,260kg electric vehicle from 0 to 100kph in a remarkable 2.7 seconds.

Design Distinctions and Competition for the Folgore EV

Differentiated by subtle design details, including the absence of exhaust pipes, blacked-out elements, and dark copper-finished badges, the Folgore EV's interior remains largely identical to its petrol-powered counterpart. Upon arrival, it will face competition from electric luxury counterparts such as the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT, and Mercedes-AMG EQS 53.

Maserati's strategic choice to introduce a revised GranTurismo as well as an all-electric variant illustrates the company's commitment to innovation and the shifting landscape of luxury and electric vehicles and the launches are likely to have a significant impact on the Indian vehicle market offering selective purchasers a combination of performance, luxury, and cutting-edge technology.
