Mahindra Thar Armada: Fresh Details Leaked

In 2020, Mahindra transformed the landscape of lifestyle off-road vehicles in India with the introduction of the 3-Door Thar. Since then, the Mahindra Thar has dominated this segment, facing competition mainly from Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. The upcoming Mahindra Thar Armada is anticipated to elevate standards further upon its release.

Insights into the Mahindra Thar Armada

Leaked details about the Thar Armada from sources at Rushlane have shed light on its unique features. Mahindra wants to strategically place the product to increase its attractiveness to a wider range of consumers and boost sales. The drivetrain lineup and related pricing, especially for the 5-Door Thar model, are important components of this plan.

Presently, Mahindra offers the 3-Door Thar with a range of engines, gearboxes, and drivetrain configurations. Engine choices include a 1.5-liter diesel, a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, and a 2.2-liter diesel engine mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual gearbox. Drivetrain choices comprise 4X2 (RWD), 4X4 (AWD) without rear locking differential, and 4X4 (AWD) with rear locking differential.

According to insider information, the Mahindra Thar Armada will debut exclusively in the 4X4 configuration, with no RWD variant available at launch. However, Mahindra plans to introduce the 4X2 Thar Armada (RWD) at a later stage, following a similar success trajectory as the 3-Door Thar 4X2 (RWD).

Speculations suggest that the Thar Armada is likely to be unveiled around August 15, 2024, mirroring Mahindra's previous launch patterns. Similar to the current 3-Door Thar, the top-tier Thar Armada variant is expected to feature a limited-slip rear differential to enhance off-road capabilities. All variants are anticipated to come equipped with a standard 4X4 transfer case at launch.

Potential Engine Options for Thar Armada

It remains uncertain whether Mahindra will offer the Thar Armada with the 1.5L Diesel engine. However, considering its compatibility with the larger Marazzo, which shares a ladder-frame chassis, this engine could prove suitable for the Thar Armada. With 117 bhp peak power and 300 Nm peak torque, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox this engine could offer adequate performance for off-road enthusiasts.

The existing 2.0L Petrol engine producing 150 bhp and 320 Nm, and the 2.2L Diesel engine generating 130 bhp and 300 Nm, are expected to continue powering the Thar Armada. These engines may receive slight performance enhancements, aligning their figures closer to those of the Scorpio.

The inside has been updated with a larger touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, front and back armrests, push-button start, a redesigned steering wheel, a single-pane sunroof, and rear AC vents.
