Mahindra is preparing to launch the 5-door Thar, another possible hit following the hugely successful launch of the 4WD and RWD Thar models. With its substantial road presence and increased space and seating capacity, the Thar 5-door is better suited to meet family needs. It's expected to be named the Mahindra Thar Armada, and ahead of its anticipated launch in August, new details have surfaced about this SUV.
Thar Armada Dimensions and Exteriors
The Thar Armada will be approximately 300 mm longer than the 3-door model, which measures 3,985 mm in length. Dimensionally, the Armada Thar will be on par with compact SUVs like the Creta, Seltos, and Maruti Grand Vitara. Many purchasers may choose the 5-door Thar over conventional compact SUVs, depending on its features and price. At the moment, Mahindra is not present in the market for small SUVs. Specific variants of the 5-door Thar may be tailored to compete directly with popular compact SUVs.
While the Armada Thar boasts larger dimensions, its core silhouette closely resembles that of the 3-door model. Most of the changes are concentrated on the front and rear. For instance, the Thar 5-door features a slightly redesigned front grille.
Other features such as LED headlamps, DRLs, and LED fog lamps remain the same as those on the 3-door model. The side profile includes additional doors and C-pillar-mounted rear door handles. Top-spec variants will be equipped with 19-inch wheels, compared to the 18-inch units seen on the 3-door model. Premium features like a 360 camera may also be available on top-spec models.
Thar 5-door Interiors and Features
Several features such as the steering wheel, utility spaces, and sunroof are borrowed from the Scorpio N. However, parts such as the dashboard and switchgear remain the same as those of the 3-door model. The Armada Thar features a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Depending on the variant, users can select from a black and brown color theme or an all-black interior.
The Thar Armada comes with a full metal roof equipped with a single-pane sunroof. Additional key features include rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry, engine auto start/stop, hill descent control, a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rear AC vents, and front and rear armrests. The seats offer comfort, with a 60:40 split option for the second-row seats. Expect the boot space to be more generous as well.
Thar 5-door Performance
The 2.0-liter gasoline and 2.2-liter diesel engines are anticipated to be available in a more advanced configuration on the Armada Thar.
