Jeep Compass was recently unveiled for India officially. The car will be made in India and may launch around August 2017. Compass will be launched with two engines and may get a price range between INR 18-24 lakh. The five seater will measure 4398 mm in length, 1819 mm in width and 1667 mm in height. It will resemble the Grand Cherokee in design and gets LEDs in its headlights and taillights. The typical Jeep style square wheel arches are clearly visible on the new car. Globally, Compass carries 17 different engine and gearbox combinations.
Jeep will manufacture the Compass at Fiat's Ranjangaon plant while the right hand drive markets like UK, Japan and Australia will get the cars exported from the Indian manufacturing plant only. Compass has been built on the small, wide and 4x4 architecture of Jeep cars, making it quite practical for India road conditions. The first engine on offer is 2.0 liter turbocharged diesel unit that is good for 170 HP and 350 Nm of torque. This will carry a 6-speed manual gearbox. The second one on offer will be 1.4 liter, turbocharged petrol that will be good for 160 HP and 250 NM of torque.
The latter carries an option between 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Both the engines will offer 4x2 as well as 4x4 option in India. The top spec cars will comes with Jeep's Selec-Terrain traction system with mud, snow and rock driving options. It will also use differential locks but low drive range will enter later through TrailHawk variant. Jeep Compass will get 7 inch navigation unit with Apple Carplay and Andriod Auto support. Safety includes reverse parking camera with sensors, ESP, airbags, hill start assist and roll over mitigation.
