Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 Deliveries Begin with Apollo Tyres

When the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 was introduced in India, one of its key features was the inclusion of Pirelli Scorpion Rally tires. However, recent deliveries of the motorcycle have surprised customers, as the bikes were observed at dealerships equipped with Apollo Tramplr XR tires. Here's why this switch occurred.

Government Regulation Impact

Following a conversation with Bajaj, it was revealed that the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has imposed a ban on original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) importing tires if there is a domestically produced alternative available in the same size. This regulation aims to promote the Make-In-India initiative. Consequently, motorcycle manufacturers cannot sell bikes with imported tires if Indian brands offer tires with the same specifications. However, tire dealers can still import tires, allowing customers to opt for options like the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires after purchase.

Technical Details and Customer Impact

The Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 features 17-inch spoked wheels and was initially showcased with Pirelli Scorpion Rally tires: 110-section at the front and 150-section at the rear. As deliveries commence, all Svartpilen 401 motorcycles will now be equipped with Apollo Tramplr XR tires from the factory. Notably, due to the spoked wheels not supporting tubeless tires, the tires will require tubes.

Price and Features Consideration

Customers might wonder if this change in tires would result in a price adjustment. However, there is no discount being offered, and the motorcycle remains priced at Rs 2.92 lakh (ex-showroom).

During the initial ride event, it was communicated that to accommodate the premium Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires, the bike was not equipped with advanced electronic features like ride modes or lean-sensitive riding aids to manage costs. However, it's now reasonable to expect at least the inclusion of ride modes. Notably, Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 units destined for export to other markets will continue to feature Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires.
