For many years, Activa has been the main volume producer. So much so that when purchasing a scooter, many people automatically choose an Activa. Honda produced 21.5 lakh Activas in FY 2023, the majority of which were sold in India.

This month, Honda has changed the name of its most popular scooter and the brand has removed the 6G suffix from the moniker while leaving the Activa name alone. HMSI has not given a justification, but the 6G suffix has been eliminated and it is now known as only Activa on the official website of the brand.

Given that the Activa didn't actually receive six generations of updates, Honda may be doing this. Three at most, including a significant powertrain upgrade in 2020 as part of the Indian Government's push for BS6 emission standards to reduce tailpipe carbon emissions. Honda was aware of this so why the name change now? This could be a part of Honda's effort to strategically position its products. Honda may later introduce versions of its Activa series.

The Activa brand will certainly require additional variation in the near future. Honda will soon unveil its first electric scooter for India. It will have a battery that can be changed. The name of Honda's next EV can cause confusion with the name of its current ICE scooter. One of the reasons can also be the anticipation of this.

A 7G or 8G Activa might not exist. Conversely, small changes to the Activa lineup are more likely to be acknowledged the year after they were made. Honda, for instance, will probably refer to improvements in 2023 as MY2023 Activa and so forth. The only modification the business is making is the naming of the Honda Activa. 

This indicates that the 109.51cc single-cylinder engine found in the Activa is still available. Its engine is paired with a CVT and produces 8.9 Nm of torque and a max power of 7.73 bhp. Honda provides amenities such as an external fuel filler cap, a silent starter, LED headlights, and DRL.

The price of Activa has not gone up in India. The price of Rs 75,347 remains unchanged, Honda has just changed its name.
