First Glimpse of 2024 Mahindra XUV400 Facelift Caught During Testing

The automotive world is a hive of activity as Mahindra gets ready to revitalize its XUV lineup with the XUV300 and XUV400 electric facelifts. While the XUV300 has been making appearances during testing the electric variant of the XUV400 has made its debut in the testing arena offering a sneak peek into what the future holds for Mahindra's electric lineup.

Design Inspired by XUV700

The test mule of the XUV400 facelift unveils a design inspired by its larger sibling the XUV700, and the flat bonnet and sharp front coupled with headlights reminiscent of the XUV700 give the electric SUV a distinctive and contemporary appearance. Notably, a copper-colored grille, a signature element for Mahindra's electric vehicles sets it apart from its internal combustion engine-powered counterpart and the copper inlay that protrudes from the headlights gives the entire design a refined touch.

Aero-styled Alloys and Profile

In profile, the XUV400 facelift showcases aero-styled 5-spoke alloys, a feature also spotted on the facelifted XUV300 and the side design retains familiar elements with cuts, creases, and body contouring. While the rear remains concealed under wraps, speculation suggests it might adopt a connected LED tail light setup aligning with the contemporary design language seen in the automotive industry.

Cabin Redesign and Enhanced Features

Although the interior remains elusive in spy shots, expectations run high for a redesigned cabin, drawing inspiration from the XUV300 facelift. Anticipate a larger floating touchscreen infotainment system, potentially surpassing the current 7-inch unit and changes in the placement and orientation of AC vents might contribute to an overall refreshed look. A 360-degree camera, a wireless phone charger, ventilated seats, and maybe Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are among the additional features that the facelift is expected to bring.

Powertrain Tweaks for Efficiency

Under the hood, the XUV400 facelift is expected to retain its existing powertrain featuring a 150 PS/310 Nm electric motor. The electric SUV offers versatility with two battery pack options: 34.5 kWh and 39.4 kWh, boasting claimed ranges of 375 km and 456 km respectively. While major revisions may not be on the horizon Mahindra might implement tweaks to enhance efficiency and extend the range further. Additionally, fast-charging compatibility is anticipated for quick top-up times.

Launch and Market Dynamics

The facelifted XUV400 is projected to hit the market around the same time as its XUV300 counterpart with an expected launch in early 2024. As Mahindra seeks to position itself competitively in the electric SUV segment pricing for the facelifted XUV400 could witness a marginal increase over the current starting price of Rs 15.98 lakh (ex-showroom) and this strategic move aims to present a robust challenge to competitors, particularly the recently updated Tata Nexon EV.

As automotive enthusiasts eagerly await the official unveiling of the XUV400 facelift the electric SUV promises to bring a fusion of contemporary design, enhanced features, and sustainable mobility to the forefront of the automotive landscape. Mahindra's journey towards an electric future is still shaping the industry and provides an interesting look at how electric SUVs are developing in the Indian market.
