Shelby cars are expected to launch in India by the end of 2019. The performance brand makes cars based on the Ford platform, helping the upcoming buyers with Ford-partnered service and spare part availability. Shelby has immense technical experience in making performance cars and bringing them to India can improve their overall customer base. Ford Mustang is the base for many Shelby cars, notably being Cobra and the Super Snake. The brand offers R variants for those who need more track-specific driving experience.

The 5.2L, supercharged engine on the top-spec model produces 700 HP of maximum output when paired to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Bringing Shelby cars through the CBU route won’t make them as attractive as other rivals and thus, the brand is expected to use local assembly for better pricing. The only question that arises here is the placement of Ford Mustang as the iconic car is available for INR 74.62 lakh through the CBU route. As most cars will share parts like the frame and body panels, the local assembly of the Ford Mustang will be an important fact for the brand’s arrival.

When equated with the pricing in the US market, the 2019 Ford Mustang comes for $39,355 (INR 27.10 lakh approx for the 5.0L GT Premium version) while the Shelby GT350 comes for $59,140 (INR 40.72 lakh approx). As the former sees approx 2.7 times the increase in price for the country, the latter will get a price of approx INR 1.05 Crore through the CBU route. When equated through the local assembly, both the models can get a better equation with the Indian buyers by saving a lot of money. AJP Group is the official technical partner for Shelby India.
