FAME II Scheme: 350 EV Charging Stations Installed in India

As the whole world is focusing on the target of net zero-emission, India has also begun contributing to the same. Under the FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and EV) scheme, 350 Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations have been installed across the country as of 6th July this year. Recently, the FAME scheme got extended for two years by the Union Administration to encourage the sale of electric vehicles.

According to the sources, these charging stations have been established in several big cities such as Chandigarh, Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and Ranchi. In response to a question in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar stated that the ministry has also approved 2,877 electric vehicle charging stations worth $5 billion in 68 cities across 25 states.

Regarding EV and hybrid vehicle sales, Gurjar revealed that the ministry has supported 85,626 EVs through demand incentives worth 2.54 billion as of July 15, 2021, under the second phase of FAME India. In addition, as part of the initiative, the ministry approved 6,256 electric buses for various state/city transportation projects.

The govt of India aims to electrify the public and shared transportation under the second phase of the FAME scheme and has a plan of supporting it through subsidies. As per the information available so far, these electric vehicle charge stations will be functional 24x7 with 21 AC/DC chargers for 2, 3 and 4 wheeler automobiles. These chargers can be operated through the Magenta ChargeGrid app.

Also as the initiative of using natural sources for the service, these stations are equipped with rooftop solar panels. The Indian vehicle market is slowly moving forward to make India an electric vehicle hub and this project will definitely help to boost the sale of EVs. It is also going to reduce the stress of electric automobile buyers.
