TVS Motor Company has started the export of the BMW CE 02 electric scooter, marking a significant milestone in its long-standing collaboration with BMW Motorrad. The CE 02, which is manufactured by TVS in India, began production in October 2023.
Export Figures and Manufacturing Collaboration
According to the latest data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) for the financial year 2024, TVS exported a total of 1,173 electric vehicles. Notably, in March 2024 alone, TVS exported 924 units described as a ‘BMW EV’, identified as the BMW CE 02. This follows the earlier joint platform between TVS and BMW, which includes the 310 series motorcycles.
BMW CE 02 Specifications and Features
The BMW CE 02 electric scooter features a motor capable of producing 15 horsepower and offers a range of approximately 90 kilometers per charge. Weighing 132kg, the CE 02 can reach speeds up to 95 km/h. It sports a minimalist yet advanced design with a double-loop steel tubular frame, USD fork/monoshock suspension, a 296mm front disc brake, and single-channel ABS.
In terms of features, the CE 02 boasts keyless ignition, all-LED lighting, a reverse gear, and a 3.5-inch TFT dashboard with Bluetooth connectivity. It includes two standard riding modes, Surf and Flow, with an additional Flash mode available through the optional Highline accessory pack, which also adds unique color schemes, heated grips, and a phone mount.
TVS’s Broader Export Strategy
Besides the BMW CE 02, TVS also exported 249 units of its iQube electric scooter to Nepal during the same fiscal year. The iQube has seen robust demand within India as well, with sales exceeding 3 lakh units since its launch in January 2020. For the fiscal year 2024, TVS reported selling 1,82,933 iQubes, a 125 percent year-over-year growth, increasing its market share in the electric two-wheeler segment to 19.37 percent.
TVS continues to expand its global footprint, exporting a total of 8,87,774 two-wheelers in FY2024. This accounts for 22 percent of its combined domestic and export sales, emphasizing its position as India's second largest two-wheeler exporter. TVS products are available in over 80 countries, with recent expansions into markets like Nepal, Vietnam, and France.
This strategic move by TVS not only reinforces its partnership with BMW Motorrad but also highlights its commitment to advancing electric mobility on a global scale.
