650cc BSA Gold Star to Launch in India Or Not? - Here’s What We Know

The BSA Gold Star 650 was launched at an event held on December 4, 2021, at the Motorcycle Live Show in Birmingham, UK. BSA Motorcycles stopped its production and exited the two-wheeler market a long time ago. Classic Legends, which is owned by Mahindra & Mahindra, has revived the brand and they are soon going to revive the much-awaited Yezdi brand as well.

According to a recent report by Autocar India, the new BSA Gold Star 650 could prove to be a very successful product in the Indian market but it is not coming to our county anytime soon. As we reported earlier, the new Gold Star motorcycle would be assembled in the United Kingdom and has been developed keeping in mind the UK customers.

In one of the other reports, Classic Legends announced that when they acquired the BSA brand back in 2016, the existence of BSA cycles prevented it from selling BSA motorcycles in India, for legal issues. Another factor is that Classic Legends won't be able to price the new Gold Star 650 competitively to rival the Royal Enfield 650 Twins.

As of now, we can safely assume that the BSA Gold Star 650 is not coming to India anytime soon though Classic Legends can consider the launch of a 650cc single-cylinder motorcycle under the BSA branding in the Indian market sometime later in the future.

The BSA Gold Star features a 650cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which complies with EURO 5 emission norms, churning out 45 hp of power at 6000 rpm with a max torque of 55 Nm at 4000 rpm while the company claims a top speed figure of 165 kmph.

Putting light on the genesis of the motorcycle, not only does it look like the old Gold Star, but pays homage to the DBD34 from the 1950s, but in terms of character, the team worked really hard at keeping things simple. It has got modern technology on it, like a dual-channel ABS unit along with braking callipers from Brembo.

Inspired by the original model, the execution of the classic lines is neat and the design is proportional. The tubular steel dual-cradle frame stands on 18 inches and 17 inches front and rear wheels respectively. The wheels are equipped with Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tyres.
