2024 Toyota Hilux Facelift Unveiled with 10% Fuel Savings Before New Fortuner Launch

2024 Toyota Hilux Facelift Unveiled with 10% Fuel Savings Before New Fortuner Launch

The Toyota Hilux, now in its 8th generation, has undergone its third major update since its launch in 2015. Previous updates were made in 2017 and 2020. This latest update is likely the last for the 8th-gen model, as a new-generation version is anticipated to debut next year. The upcoming Hilux is expected to transition to the TNGA-F ladder frame, similar to the Toyota Tacoma sold in the US.

Exterior Refresh: 2024 Hilux Facelift

?The 2024 Hilux facelift introduces a refreshed appearance, particularly with a redesigned front fascia. Changes can be observed in the grille, lighting setup, and front and rear bumpers. However, the updates may vary depending on the trim level and market. For example, the Australian model may have different alterations compared to versions in Japan and Europe. While some updates are standard across all variants, higher-spec models receive additional features like gloss-black accents and darkened headlights, and LED surrounds.

New Technology: Mild-Hybrid System

Another improvement in the 2024 Toyota Hilux facelift is the introduction of a new 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This system is available with the 2.8-liter turbo diesel, four-cylinder engine, but only on select variants. The engine generates 204 PS of maximum power and 500 Nm of peak torque. The mild-hybrid technology is specifically offered with the 6AT variants. Toyota claims that this system can improve fuel efficiency by approximately 6-10%, while also enhancing engine smoothness and reducing noise levels. Unlike Toyota's petrol-powered cars and SUVs, the 48v mild-hybrid system in the Hilux facelift does not contribute to propulsion. Rather, it provides energy to auxiliary systems including air conditioning, fans, lighting, and engine pumps. Enabling the auto engine stop-start option which helps conserve fuel and lessen noise and vibrations, is one of its primary uses. Six off-road drive modes are also included with Hilux mild-hybrid models to improve performance in difficult terrain.

Enhanced Features: Interior Upgrades

The 2024 Hilux facelift also introduces new features across its variants. Standard features now include front and rear parking sensors, while higher trims offer additional features like two rear USB-C ports and a wireless smartphone charging pad. Dual-zone climate control, auto up/down for all side windows, keyless entry and start, and carpeting are among the optional options offered by the new Hilux.

Market Competition and Price Implications

Internationally, the Toyota Hilux competes with rivals such as the Ford Ranger. In India, its primary competitors are the Isuzu V-Cross and the upcoming Mahindra Scorpio N pickup, expected to debut in 2026. With these updates, the 2024 Hilux facelift may see an increase in prices. Currently, the model starts at a base price of Rs. 30.40 lakh.
