2024 Royal Enfield Scram 450: A Glimpse into the Future

Royal Enfield is set to expand its horizons with the launch of the Scram 450. After making its mark in the 350cc and 650cc segments, the company aims to replicate its success in the 450cc category. The Scram 450, along with other anticipated models like the Himalayan 450 ADV and Hunter 450, is part of Royal Enfield's strategy to diversify its portfolio. A special thanks to automotive enthusiast Ragas for sharing exclusive spy shots of the upcoming RE Scram 450.

Key Features of the Scram 450

The Scram 450 is expected to be one of the more affordable options in Royal Enfield's 450cc lineup. Unlike the Himalayan 450, which features 43 mm USD forks, the Scram 450 is equipped with standard telescopic forks at the front, although USD forks might be available as an optional extra. To keep costs in check, the Scram 450 will borrow several components from the Himalayan 450, such as the all-LED lighting setup, monoshock rear suspension, and 320 mm front / 270 mm rear disc brakes. Dual-channel ABS will come as standard, but the switchable ABS feature found on the Himalayan 450 might not be standard on the Scram 450.

The Scram 450 boasts a distinctive profile with round headlamps, a curvy fuel tank, an offset filler cap, alloy wheels, fork gaiters, a single-piece seat, and a short tail section. It also features a circular 4-inch TFT display, similar to the new Himalayan. It's yet to be confirmed if the full range of functionalities, including Bluetooth, phone connectivity, Google-powered navigation, and media controls, will be available on the Scram 450.

Performance and Specifications

The Scram 450 shares the same upswept exhaust as the Himalayan 450. It rides on 17-inch alloys with road-biased tires, and the wide rear tire promises good grip for high-speed fun. The bike offers a comfortable, upright riding stance, with a seat height expected to be less than 800 mm, enhancing control and handling.

The engine, used as a stressed member, is a 452cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC, 4-valve unit, producing 40.02 PS of maximum power and 40 Nm of peak torque. It's paired with a 6-speed gearbox and features a slip and assist clutch. Royal Enfield may fine-tune the gear ratios to suit the Scram 450's roadster profile.

Pricing and Competitors

The Scram 450 is anticipated to have an attractive price point, starting at around Rs 2.30 lakh to Rs 2.40 lakh, making it a competitive option in its segment. This pricing strategy positions the Scram 450 as an affordable alternative to rivals like the Triumph Speed 400 (starting at Rs 2.33 lakh), Hero Mavrick 440 (starting at Rs 1.99 lakh), and KTM 390 Duke (priced at around Rs 3.10 lakh).

The Royal Enfield Scram 450 is poised to be an exciting addition to the Indian motorcycle market, offering a blend of affordability, style, and performance.
