Is the Yamaha FZ 07 really a good starter bike or is it too much for beginners?

I believe it is a good starter bike for larger guys. A Ninja 300 is going to feel like a toy if you're 6'2" and 200lbs. You will fit better in the FZ-07 and you will grow into it.

It's all about self-control. You don't crash because the bike does it, you do. The FZ 07 is a great first bike that you won’t outgrow in a month if you can resist the urge to show off and ride within your limits.

So the first thing I did was swap out the seat. After an hour, you get uncomfortable on the stock one and a good aftermarket seat makes all the difference on a long ride.

Don't mod it at all! At least give it a few months to really get a feel for the bike if you ride it stock. Afterwards you will know what you really want to change.

I'd say a good set of tires. I'm okay with the stock ones, but upgrading to some high quality rubber will change this thing's handling for the better.

ECU flash, for sure. It makes throttle response a little smoother and provides you with a little bit more power. It's like riding a completely new bike.

Gearing change is underrated. In the front I go -1 and in the rear I go +2 it wakes the bike up and makes it much more fun in the twisties.

These things are bulletproof. With over 100,000 km, my FZ8 still runs like new. As long as you keep up with regular maintenance, you’re fine.
