Will the MG Majestor eat into sales of the Gloster?
The MG Majestor, which is bigger and perhaps more premium than the Gloster, could dent sales of its smaller sibling. The Majestor’s arrival could overshadow the Gloster, which has already found its feet in the premium SUV segment. As a result, MG's product strategy and market positioning are questioned. Will the Majestor draw an entirely new customer base or will it merely encourage Gloster customers to buy more? Also, we need to think about how MG will differentiate the two models with regards to features, pricing and marketing. The aim of this question is to understand the possible repercussions upon MG's existing lineup and eventually the premium SUV segment in India keeping in view factors such as brand image, customer preferences, and market segmentation.
No, they'll get along just fine. Fortuner and Innova are both sell well for Toyota, it's like that. For different needs, different sizes.
It's going to definitely eat into Gloster sales. Why would anyone pay the price for the smaller SUV when they can buy the bigger, badder Majestor?
I think that MG is shooting themselves in the foot here. Instead of bringing in a new model, they should have concentrated on improving the Gloster.
You’re all forgetting about pricing. The Gloster will still have its place in the lineup if the Majestor is significantly more expensive.
It’s not about cannibalizing sales, it’s about providing customers with more options. There will be some people who will want the biggest SUV possible and others who will want the slightly smaller Gloster.
The real question is if Indian market can sustain two premium SUVs from same brand. It's not Toyota or Mahindra yet.
They'll differentiate them enough, I bet. They might even make the Gloster a little more off road focused and the Majestor a luxury cruiser.
