What is the resale value of the Tour M as compared to the Ertiga?

While most of us consider resale value while buying a vehicle, especially in the Indian market where it can make a substantial difference to one's total cost of ownership. As a commercial version of the Ertiga, the Maruti Tour M poses a few intriguing questions regarding its resale value, relative to its consumer oriented counterpart. Higher mileage, commercial use means more wear and tear, perhaps less to start with, could all come in to play with impact on its future value. Furthermore, the resale prospects could be undermined by the fact that the used market for commercial vehicles is comparatively limited compared with the wider market for family MPVs. A discussion on this topic often includes the long term financial implications of selecting the commercial variant over the normal one, and if the initial saving is lost in the subsequent resale value.

Commercial vehicles always have resale value tricky. Since it has higher mileage and will be worn out, it’s most likely that the Tour M will depreciate faster.

In some markets, I think it might actually hold its value better. Commercial vehicles are always in demand and especially from Maruti.

Anybody buying a Tour M isn’t thinking about resale. Let’s be honest. For them, it’s all about the initial cost and running expenses.

Certainly the regular Ertiga will have better resale value. It has a wider market and no 'taxi' image like the Tour M might have.

After a couple years, I've seen some Tour Ms converted back to personal vehicles. However, you can get a decent resale value if you’re smart about maintenance.

You owe a lot to resale value. Someone who wanted to start a small taxi business could get a good price for a well maintained Tour M.

That might actually be a benefit in the Tour M's lack of fancy features for resale. Over time, less stuff to break or go wrong.
