What is the best touring setup for FZ25 for long distance rides?

Sukhmandeep Kaur on 10 January 2025 08:03
The FZ25's comfortable ergonomics and a reliable engine have been a hit with riders who like to tour long distances. It is, however, a standard naked bike and doesn't come with many of the usual touring features included out of the box. As a result, there is a very active FZ25 owner community exchanging experiences and recommendations for the most suitable touring setups. Aftermarket items such as windscreens, luggage solutions, seat adjustments and handlebar changes are what most people talk about. Riders argue for and against hard and soft luggage, the efficacy of different windscreen approaches, and ergonomic tweaks to make long distance riding more comfortable. There’s also discussion regarding performance modifications that may prove to be the most beneficial for touring, like changes of gearing or suspension. Key points of consideration are cost effectiveness while balancing the need to add touring capability without sacrificing the bike ability to be used everyday.

You really don't need much, a small windscreen and some soft saddlebags. It keeps it simple and doesn't add too much weight.

I swear by my top box setup. It’s secure, waterproof, and doesn’t affect handling as much as saddlebags.

The secret to long rides is comfort. I found gel seat cover and handlebar risers made a huge difference for me.

Don't forget protection. If you are going off road there is no way you can survive without a good bash plate and hand guards.

I did it all out with hard panniers, a tall windscreen and auxilliary lights. It turns the FZ25 into a proper mini–tourer.

Keep it light. Most trips will do with a tank bag and a tail bag. The best way to handle the FZ25 is when it’s not weighed down.

Concentrate on the rider more than the bike. Any bike mods are nothing compared to good gear, especially a helmet you don't want to take off, and riding pants that fit.

You’ll need a 12V socket for charging your devices. For those long highway stretches, also consider a throttle lock.

Long rides were vastly more comfortable with a slightly taller handlebar and a footpeg lowering kit.
