What is Torque?

Torque refers to pulling power of the engine. Higher torque means more pull and more pull means more acceleration. The engine does not generate the same amount of torque at all RPMs. Specification explains the maximum torque produced by an engine and the RPM at which it is produced. For example, "15 Nm at 8000 rpm" means that the engine produces a maximum of 15 Nm of torque, and it produces this torque at 8000 rpm. Bikes that produce maximum torque at higher RPMs tend to be high-revving. It means the rider has to rev it more to get the full power. This is both for sports bikes and performance bikes as it allows them to have a higher top speed. On the other hand, bikes that produce maximum torque at a lower rpm have great initial acceleration and they have an effortless pickup, but cannot achieve very high speeds such as Cruiser bikes. For example, Bajaj Dominar 400 produce maximum torque of 35 NM @ 6500 rpm, on the other hand, Royal Enfield Classic 350 produce 28 Nm of maximum torque @ 4,000 rpm.
