Was Maruti wrong in discontinuing the Ritz?
Car enthusiasts and industry watchers are at loggerheads over Maruti's decision to discontinue the Ritz in 2016. The Ritz had done its own thing, with its own design and its own set of practical features, and had carved out a niche for itself among a certain segment of buyers. But Maruti decided to concentrate on other models with changing market trends and the growing competition. Product lifecycle management in the Indian auto market has been questioned by this decision. Did Maruti somehow miss the opportunity and not have the Ritz evolve with modern features and design updates? Or was it a smart thing to do, consolidating their lineup and focusing on more popular models? The discontinuation of the Ritz also left a void in Maruti's line up between the WagonR and Swift that some say could have been bridged by an updated Ritz.
I think it was a mistake. The Ritz was loyal and could have easily been updated to compete with other hotels.
Nah, it was the right call. There was a demand in the market for a bit more premium looking hatchbacks, with Ritz looking somewhat dated.
They should have kept it and give it a major facelift. It could have taken on the i20 and Jazz.
Discontinuing it made sense. Maruti had too many models overlapping, and something had to go.
I miss the Ritz. It was unique and practical. Everything in that segment now looks the same.
It was a smart business move. In that price range, the Baleno probably makes them more money.
They could have marketed it as a cheaper alternative to the Baleno. Missed opportunity there.
