The Z500 also has a lot in common with its main competition, the Honda CB500F.

In the middleweight naked bike segment, things are tough – the Kawasaki Z500 is often compared to Honda’s popular CB500F. They both take an approachable power, modern styling and attractive price point and aim at similar demographics. Each is frequently the subject of riders' discussions of the merits of each, weighing engine character, handling, features, and value. Often pitted against the Honda's reputation for bulletproof reliability is the Z500's slightly higher horsepower output. And of course, which bike is more ergonomically friendly for daily riding and which has the edge in aftermarket support? Others say Z500's more aggressive look is an advantage; others again like the CB500F's more mature and refined look. What usually decides it is brand loyalty, very minute distinctions in riding experience, and person preference in design or technology.

I rode both, and the Z500 feels sportier. Handling is a bit sharper; on the engine, it has a bit more punch. I like it more fun bike to ride.
