The Mahindra XUV.e9's coupe-like looks: Will it come at the cost of practicality?
After luxury brands popularized it, the Mahindra XUV.e9 is being pitched as an electric coupe style SUV. Sure this design choice provides the car with a sportier and more dynamic look but more often than not sacrifices rear headroom and cargo space. This is quite bold by a brand like Mahindra that does great, practical, spacious vehicles. The Indian customers on the whole give more importance to space and functionality, especially in bigger vehicles. The XUV.e9 is longer than its sibling, the XUV.e8, but it is intended to be a 5 seater rather than a 7 seater. It makes one wonder if it is being used interior space wisely and whether the coupe shape makes it any less practical. Will Indian buyers sacrifice some utility for style, or will Mahindra be alienating its core customer base with this design choice?
All coupe SUVs are form over function. It'll be cool looking, but good luck getting adults in the back or loading big items.
I think it's a smart move. This will attract younger buyers looking for something stylish, there's enough boxy SUVs out there.
It’s how well they execute it. If they can keep decent headroom and boot space, it could be a hit.
Mahindra is taking a risk here. Typically, their buyers don’t care about style but space. However this might be too niche for the Indian market.
I'm excited about it! Last but not least, an affordable coupe SUV. Not everyone has to haul 7 people and their luggage all the time.
They should have remained with their strengths. Now, Mahindra is not known for making fancy coupe designs, it's tough, practical vehicles.
It's a balancing act. If they do it right, they could break into a new segment. However, they can’t sacrifice too much practicality.
