Off-road, can the Jimny really compete with the Mahindra Thar?
If you compare the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Mahindra Thar, they are in the same space in the Indian market — compact off-roaders that are more about capability than comfort. The Thar is larger, more powerful and has a more imposing presence, while the Jimny is lighter, smaller, and has a legendary off road heritage. The 4x4 systems of both vehicles are different ways to approach tackling tough terrain. The Thar is all brute force, its construction is robust, the Jimny is all agility, even with the ability to go through smaller spaces. And so, this comparison has evoked debates among the off road enthusiasts as to which vehicle is the best, when the tarmac ends. However, off road prowess is relative regarding approach and departure angles, ground clearance, wheel articulation, and low range gearing in particular.
No way. With a more powerful engine and better setup suspension, the Thar is in a different league. The Thar is capable, where Jimny is cute.
