Is the stock CB500X suspension up to light off-road duty?
One of the most talked-about items when it comes to the Honda CB500X is its suspension setup. As it has longer travel suspension than its CB500 siblings, opinions differ on whether it is enough for off-road. The stock suspension works just fine for gravel roads and light trails for some riders, while others find it too soft and soon overwhelmed when the going gets rough. This has sparked a debate over whether aftermarket suspension upgrades are necessary for any serious off-road use or that the stock setup is more than sufficient for the type of riding that most CB500X owners actually do. The discussion usually revolves around the bike’s intended purpose and whether or not Honda got the right blend of on-road comfort and off-road capability.
They’re fine for fire roads and light trails, but anything more serious and you’ll want to upgrade.
