Is the S Cross a premium NEXA experience or that of a Maruti overpriced?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views7 answers
The NEXA premium dealership network was where the S-Cross was one of Maruti’s first offerings. Creta was meant to be an upmarket crossover in comparison with regular Maruti rivals. But there was also debate whether it really provided a premium experience to justify the premium asking price and NEXA branding, or was all just a Maruti on steroids with some bells and whistles in addition. For some, there wasn't a significant difference between the quality of the build, features it offered or overall experience compared to Arena models to justify premium positioning. While some second generation AStar owners don't think it was 'worth the upgrade', others feel that it indeed carried more meaning in terms of refinement, safety and driving dynamics. There is also talk about whether the model did not live up to its premium claims.

Performance wise, the 1.6 diesel variant was truly premium. Maruti chickened out and watered down the lineup with weaker engines later.

Face it, this was Maruti's first attempt at 'premium' and that was clear. Subsequently, later NEXA products such as Baleno and Ignis came across as more cohesively upmarket.

The product itself was not the premium, it was in the buying and service experience. The NEXA dealerships are definitely a notch above the regular Maruti dealerships.

It does look and feel more premium than regular Marutis though, and I say this coming from someone who owns an S Cross, it just feels more premium in terms of NVH levels and ride quality. It's not luxury car territory, though.

It's a mixed bag. The interior quality was definitely a step up from Arena models, but not really premium. The robust chassis and safety were the real value.

The S-Cross actually had pretty good build quality and refinement for its segment, I don't agree. The 1.6 diesel was a gem of an engine.

A glorified Maruti with some extra chrome slapped on is all it is. It is the same cheap plastics and rattly build quality like any other Maruti.
