Is the FZ09 too much bike for a new rider?
The Yamaha FZ 09 is a powerful 847cc triple with an aggressive throttle response that has sparked debate with motorcycle enthusiasts all over whether it is a good beginner bike. It is much more powerful than starter bikes with 105 horsepower and 65 lb-ft of torque. A lightweight chassis coupled with the bike's upright riding position makes it appealing but the bike's potent engine and sometimes twitchy throttle can be intimidating. Some riders will tell you it’s a dream to ride, while others warn that novices shouldn’t be trusted with so much power. It’s a discussion that often includes the bike’s different riding modes, potential for modification, and how it stacks up against other popular starter bikes such as the FZ-07, or even 600cc sport bikes. This ongoing debate often includes topics such as safety concerns, insurance costs and the learning curve in managing that kind of powerful machine.
Not for a beginner at all. It is way too much power to learn the basics of riding safely. Work your way up, start on something smaller.
