Is the Chetak Urbane's performance in the rain a deal breaker?
Like most electric scooters, the Bajaj Chetak Urbane struggles with wet weather performance. Reports from users include the issue of water splashing over essential components that may impact the electrical systems. As a result, there has been a debate around the scooter's suitability for areas with heavy rainfall or year round use in monsoon prone areas. A few riders have experienced reduced performance or reliability issues after riding in heavy rain, but some riders say the scooter has no problem with wet conditions. We also discuss Bajaj's waterproofing and how it stacks up to other electric scooters available in the market. It covers how the scooter will impact long term durability if exposed to the same wet conditions daily — and for commuters who can’t avoid the rain. A few users suggested modifications or riding techniques to combat potential issues, and others believe an electric scooter should perform in any weather condition without any special precautionary measures.

It doesn’t perform well in the rain, but that’s not a deal breaker for me. When I can, I just plan my trips around the weather. At least it’s better than getting drenched on a regular scooter!

I’ve done some DIY waterproofing around critical areas and it’s made a huge difference. It's a little extra protection in wet conditions.

Bajaj needs to improve waterproofing, I think. For the price we're paying it should be able to cope with rain without us worrying about damaging the electrics.

The monsoon performance is a real concern, I live in Mumbai. On really rainy days I find myself leaving the Chetak at home and using other transport options. It’s not confidence inspiring.

No scooter is ideal in heavy rain, but then again, no scooter is. Same as any other two wheeler, I just slow down and avoid deep water.

I’ve had some scary moments in the rain, maybe you’ve been lucky. I once rode through a deep puddle and the scooter shut off completely. Not fun in heavy traffic!

I don’t want to give a false impression that I have ridden my Chetak through some serious downpours, but it has held up fine. So far, no performance or electrical gremlins. I think people are needlessly paranoid.
