Is the BYD Seal's infotainment system the deal breaker for tech savvy buyers?
One of the main complaints about the BYD Seal's infotainment system has been that it's terrible. On paper, the hardware specs are impressive — there's a large touchscreen and digital instrument cluster — but some users have reported problems with the software's responsiveness, the user interface and feature set relative to Tesla or well established luxury brands. That has sparked debate about the importance of infotainment systems in modern EVs, and whether BYD's offering is good enough for tech savvy buyers who want a smooth digital experience. Areas up for discussion include smartphone integration, voice commands, how frequently an infotainment system gets over the air updates, and the learning curve with new infotainment systems.
The screen is cool rotating, but the UI seems clunky compared to my old Tesla. It's definitely the weak point of the Seal.
In fact, I like BYD’s simpler interface. Not everyone has to have an iPad on wheels.
It's annoying there's not built in navigation, but Android Auto works well enough for me.
It's not as slick as some competitors, but it works. It’s also been improving with updates, plus.
It’s very hit or miss with the voice commands. A tech brand like BYD should have done better.
I’m coming from an older car where the infotainment is pretty good. It's all relative, I guess.
Sometimes the responsiveness can be laggy on the screen, but a reboot usually fixes that. There's no deal breaker.
