Is the Aprilia SXR 125 a reliable long distance tourer?

by @sukhmandeepover 1 year ago0 views7 answers
In India, scooters are mostly used for urban commuting, but the trend of enthusiasts exploring long distance touring on scooters is picking up. Aprilia SXR 125 comes across as a maxi-scooter with good looks and comfortable riding position which should make it ideal for long hauls too. But its reliability on longer journeys has been called into question, particularly given that Aprilia is a new player in India. Its fuel efficiency on highways, the comfort level over long hours and its luggage carrying ability is what riders are curious about. Availability of service centers and spare part in smaller towns and cities is also discussed, which is very important for touring. Weekend getaways have been shared by some owners, while others are skeptical that a 125cc scooter is capable of serious touring. In this article, we’ll look at the SXR 125 as a touring machine and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of taking this stylish scooter on long rides in India.

I love touring on my SXR 125! It’s comfortable, efficient, head turner, wherever I go. You just need to invest in some good luggage solutions and you’re good to go.

At highway speeds, the engine's stressed a bit, and the fuel efficiency suffers. For long distances I'd say no, but for short tours maybe it's ok.

It’s not great, but it can be done. I’ve toured on mine and while it’s not as effortless as a bigger bike, it is fun in its own way. Be prepared to stop more often.

I wouldn't risk it. Out in the sticks Aprilia's service network is poor. Breaking down in the middle of nowhere is a headache.

It's surprisingly capable! I added a top box for extra storage, and it does weekend getaways like a champ. It rides great for long distances.

Are you kidding? It’s a city scooter, not a tourer. It has a small fuel tank and storage and is not practical for long rides. Stick to short trips.

The SXR 125 has been a blast, I've done a few 300km round trips on it. Good wind protection, comfortable seating and enough pep for highway cruising. All you need to do is pack lightly and plan your fuel stop.
