Is KTM Duke 200 a good bike for city commuting as a first bike?

by @geeta.autosover 1 year ago0 views10 answers
Urban riders like its compact size and nimble handling, and that’s been great for the KTM Duke 200. While it is seen as a feasible daily commuter ride by many, there are others who disagree. There is praise for agility and a peppy engine, as well as some complaints about the maintenance costs and heat in traffic. For shorter rides, fuel efficiency and comfortable ride, with longer rides; comfort and considering the reliability of the bike in the stop go traffic. Also, the power delivery, and ergonomics of the Duke 200 might not suit new riders' expectation. In this article, we will look at different angles of whether the Duke 200 is really a smart buy for city commuters and those who are new to motorcycling.

It's a great bike if you have a mechanical inclination. The Duke 200 is a good one for learning a lot about maintenance. If not, you’ll likely need to go to the mechanic more often than with some other bikes.

I began on a Duke 200 and I really liked it, but on longer rides the vibrations at high speed can be annoying. But it is perfect for short trips!

The riding position is one thing to be considered. It’s fun and quite sporty, but maybe not the most comfortable if you’re going to be commuting a long way. First test ride it to see if it is fit for you.

Daily commuting is a big plus for the fuel efficiency. Mine is great on mileage which makes it super economical for everyday use.

That depends on your city, I’d say. It's great if you've got decent roads and not too much traffic. If, however, you're stuck with pothole filled streets and constant gridlock, you may want something with softer suspension.

The Duke 200 was perfect for a new rider like me. It’s not so powerful that it’s intimidating, but it’s powerful enough that it’s fun. And it has accelerated my skill development.

For city rides, I absolutely love my Duke 200. The only downside is that it gets pretty hot in slow moving traffic. That is something to consider if you live in a hot climate.

The bike is a great bike, but maintenance costs are a pain. If you don’t mind spending a little more on upkeep, then go for it. You might want to look at Japanese alternatives otherwise.

I wouldn't recommend it as a first bike. Beginners may find the throttle a little twitchy and the upright seating position a little unusual. Perhaps begin with something a little more forgiving?

Absolutely! The Duke 200 is a city riding perfect. It's light, quick and has enough juice to bust through traffic. I've had mine for a year now for daily commutes, and it’s been a blast.
