Is India's push towards more modern and efficient vehicles being hurt by the CT100B's popularity?

The Bajaj CT100B’s continued popularity, even in rural and semi urban areas, has led to a debate about its effect on India’s automotive progress. The bike’s affordability and fuel efficiency are attractive to many, but its basic technology and emissions standards are behind those of more modern alternatives. But some say the widespread use of these basic motorcycles is holding back the adoption of cleaner, more advanced vehicles in India. Some argue that the CT100B is a crucial stepping stone for many Indians into the world of personal transportation. The conversation usually revolves around how to balance economic accessibility with environmental concerns, and the part that government regulations play in the motorcycle market. But there's also the question of whether the CT100B, an affordable option, will be left behind if we push too hard for rapid modernization.

We can’t turn a blind eye to the environmental impact. Rather than being simply cheap, Bajaj should also clean up the CT100B.

The CT100B is a stepping stone. As users’ income grows, many will upgrade to more advanced bikes.

It's not the bike's fault. This segment needs to be incentivized by the government to provide cleaner alternatives.

Clearly, there’s a big market for cheap transport. At this price point, companies should be making modern tech accessible.

It's not black and white. While the CT100B has a use case now, we should be moving towards phasing it out.

I think it's holding us back. We have to encourage more modern, more efficient options on every price level.

It's a necessary evil. Fancy electric bikes are not for everyone. People get moving with the CT100B.
