Is all that extra cost worth it for the KTM 890 Adventure R over the standard model for mostly street riding?

While the KTM 890 Adventure R is often lauded for its off-road ability, many riders are attracted to its aggressive looks even if they have no intention of testing its off-road capabilities. Fitted with upgraded suspension, a taller seat height, and more, the R model also has a rally mode. But these upgrades are pricey. Is the R model overkill for those that spend most of their time on pavement but want the ability to explore dirt occasionally? Or does the better suspension and more dirt-focused ergonomics make for better all-around performance, even on the street?

In truth, the standard 890 Adventure is more than enough for mostly street riding. The R's higher seat and stiffer suspension may actually work against long highway stretches.

I'd say go for the R. Even if you're not hardcore off-roading, the better suspension makes a huge difference in ride quality on rough pavement and bumpy back roads.

It all depends on your budget. The R's upgrades are nice to have, even if you don't use them to their full potential, but if you can swing the extra cash, the standard model is great.

I own the R model and mostly ride street, so I kind of regret not getting the standard version. The extra features are cool, but I don’t really use them all the way.

It’s worth the R just for the looks. Plus, you never know what kind of terrain you may want to tackle. It is better to have the capability and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I would say save your money and get the standard model. Use that difference on some nice luggage or other upgrades that will actually benefit your riding style.

Even on the street, the R's suspension is a game changer. It takes potholes and rough roads, and it soaks them up like nothing else. I definitely think the extra cost is worth it.
