Is a lack of a rear wiper on the Ioniq 5 a deal breaker?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views7 answers
Perhaps the most controversial design decision on the Ioniq 5 is that it doesn’t have a rear wiper. This has stirred up a lot of talk among owners and potential buyers about the effect it’ll have on visibility and safety, especially in bad weather. Some say the rear window is aerodynamically designed to keep it clear, others say it's a mess in rain or snow. One thing (or rather, the lack of it) that has been a sticking point for many considering the Ioniq 5 has been the lack of a rear wiper, and whether or not future models will feature one. The debate also discusses how this design choice stacks up to other EVs and whether it's a trend we'll start to see in more electric vehicles. Do we miss the lack of a rear wiper in the Ioniq 5, or is it something that we can live without?

Deal-breaker for me. But I loved everything about it except this. I ended up going with a different EV because of it.

It's fine 90% of the time, but those 10% when you really need it are frustrating.

It would have bothered me more, but I'm used to it now. Just keep some Rain-X handy.

It’s not a deal breaker, but it’s the one thing I would change about the car. Who wants to skimp on such a basic feature?

This is more than I thought it was. The rear window is a constant battle in winter to clear.

Honestly, I barely notice it. Most of the time, the airflow keeps the rear window pretty clear.

But it's definitely an annoying issue, not a deal breaker. I’ve had some sketchy moments in heavy rain.
