In 2025 how does the FZ8 compare to modern naked bikes?
Since the FZ8's heyday, the motorcycle market has changed drastically as we approach 2025. Modern naked bikes will now come with advanced electronics, improved power to weight ratios and cutting edge design. As a result, riders have been debating whether or not the FZ8 can stand on its own anymore. It’s either an enduring choice for its simplicity and reliability or it’s an outdated technology that’s been left behind by innovations. The relevant discussion often involves things like ride by wire throttles, traction control systems and smartphone connectivity features that modern bikes these days incorporate. Whether or not these new features add to or take away from the riding experience is hotly debated amongst riders, who prefer the pure analog experience of bikes like the FZ8. The discussion also takes into account long term reliability, ease of maintenance, and value of an used FZ8 over a brand new naked bike with added technology.
It’s still a good bike but it’s definitely starting to show its age. Nakeds have come a long way, with way better electronics and suspension.
The FZ8 is a simpler bike than the FZ6. It’s just pure riding with no fancy riding modes or traction control to worry about.
It's outdated now. It’s a different league when it comes to power delivery and handling of newer bikes, such as the MT-09.
The FZ8 is hard to beat for the used market price. For the money, you get a lot of bike, and they are built to last.
A new bike? I’d take a well maintained FZ8 any day. It has all the power you need, but none of the electronic nanny stuff.
I can't stand a lack of modern features. Quickshifters and cornering ABS make a huge difference in the enjoyment of riding.
That depends on what you are after. If you want the latest tech, go new. The FZ8 is a great, reliable, no frills bike that still gets the job done.
The inline four of the FZ8 still sounds better than most modern triples or twins. Sometimes the old school way is the best.
It’s hard to beat the value of a used FZ8, but you’ll be missing out on the refinement and features of newer bikes. It's a trade-off.
