If you think the Royal Enfield Bullet Trials 500 is a good platform for customization, or if you should start with a standard Bullet instead.

Customization is a big part of being a motorcycle culture and particularly in the retro and classic bike scene. A limited edition model, the Royal Enfield Bullet Trials 500 has its own distinct styling, making it a bit of a quandary for potential customizers. It's got some nice factory scrambler style mods on one hand. It’s rare and also has a higher price point, making owners hesitant to major changes. As a result, debate ensues about whether it’s better to begin customizing from the Trials 500 or start with a standard Bullet and work up to spec. The availability of parts, resale value, and the balance between retaining the original character of the bike and the pleasure of building a bike truly one’s own is all part of it.

Definitely starting with a standard Bullet is the way to go. You’ll be free to customize without the worries of screwing up a limited edition bike.

The Trials 500 is a great starting point, I think. You can build on top of what it already has as some cool mods and make something really unique.

Customising a Trials 500 is a waste. Why mess with it? It's already a special bike. Regular Bullet save the mods.

It depends on your goals. If you’re looking for a truly unique bike, start with the Trials 500. If you’re on a budget or are interested in doing a ground up build, go with a standard Bullet.

I've seen some awesome custom Trials 500s. The trick is to make its scrambler vibe stronger, without changing its character.

Honestly, either way works. The scrambler look is the gift that keeps on giving, and the Trials 500 gives you a head start on this look, but a standard Bullet is a blank canvas. That all depends on your vision and on your budget.

Consider resale value too. While the value of the Trials 500 is partly in the fact it is still in its original condition, a heavily customized Trials 500 might be worth less than a modified standard Bullet.
