How will the Urban Cruiser EV stack up against purpose built EVs from other brands in performance?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
The market that the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is entering is one in which many other car makers have been working for years to develop and refine their electric vehicle tech. Given that Toyota has entered so late to the EV fray, specifically with a platform shared with Suzuki, one has to wonder how the Urban Cruiser EV will compare with established electric models when it comes to range, charging speed and performance. Some question if Toyota's hybrid expertise will translate to full EVs, or if its pure EV inexperience will show up in the Urban Cruiser EV's real world performance. Furthermore, the battery technology selected for the car, the efficiency of the electric motor, and the software optimization will all be important factors in measuring the competitiveness of such a model versus rivals with more time to refine and better their EV offering.

It’s make or break software. Toyota's not known for great infotainment and that's going to be more and more important in EVs.

Performance isn't everything. A lot of people won't care if it's not the fastest EV out there if they price it right and it's practical.

I’m worried about how fast it charges. If they can't get that perfect, then it doesn't matter how good the rest of the car is for long trips.

Long term reliability will be the real test. Toyota is usually great at that, and that could make them unique in the EV world.

It'll be middle of the pack probably. Good enough for most folks, but EV enthusiasts will want something a little more up to date.

Don't underestimate Toyota. Who knows, they might surprise us with some hybrid derived efficiency tricks to give it the edge.

It’ll be decent, not groundbreaking though. Toyota isn't one to set performance boundaries, especially not with their first real EV effort.
