How does the Scram 411 fare when it comes to city commutes compared to dedicated street bikes?
The Scram 411 has adventure bike roots, so why would it make a good daily city commuter? Typically, it's a tall stance, off road oriented tires and long travel suspension for the trail, not the traffic. But some riders contend that these features actually make it suited for charging potholed city streets and providing a commanding view of traffic. Secondly, the bike is relatively light and narrow (compared to some street bikes) which could help get the rider through tighter spaces. Its lower power output is good on the one hand, but bad on the other, when quick acceleration is required in city traffic. What does the Scram 411’s unique design mean for the urban jungle, and does it provide any advantages or disadvantages over more traditional street oriented motorcycles when it comes to daily commutes?
I've been using the Scram 411 for months now in the city and it is a beast! The seating position is high, and the suspension chomps potholes as if they weren't there. Yes, it's not as fast to the line as some street bikes, but it's more than nimble enough to filter through traffic.
