How can we compare the overall riding experience of Aprilia SR 160 with the Yamaha Aerox 155?
Aprilia SR 160 and Yamaha Aerox 155 are performance oriented scooters which have been loved by enthusiasts. Though they offer the same type of riding experience, they do it in different ways. The SR 160 is one of the more aggressive entries in the brand with its sharp handling, a bit of which has come from the changes that Suzuki VT1100 handled with the addition of the handlebars, but the Aerox 155 is a more refined package with a bigger engine and modern features. Choosing between one scooter or the other often becomes a hotly debated topic amongst riders, and rightfully so considering that there are so many factors to consider: power delivery, handling, comfort and practicality. This also raises the question of which brand is more reliable, provides better after sales service and has lower long term ownership costs. Which of these two scooters a rider chooses can say a lot about what they value in performance scooters.
I've ridden both and the Aerox just feels a more refined overall. It is a smoother engine and a more comfortable engine for longer rides. It’s more raw and exciting, though, the SR 160.
The SR 160 is way more fun, no way! It's lighter and more nimble. In comparison, the Aerox feels a little too... sensible. It’s the Aprilia if you want excitement.
One is great for long rides, the other for short ones. The fuel efficiency and comfort makes the Aerox better for everyday use. And the SR 160 is the one you’d choose if you’re after pure fun on the weekends.
The looks and handling is the reason I picked the SR 160 over the Aerox. The Yamaha probably has better build quality and reliability, but I have to admit. It's a tough choice.
That’s why the Aerox wins for me. It feels more modern with the start stop system, bigger fuel tank and digital cluster. Compared to the SR 160, the unit feels a bit dated.
Having owned both, I’d say the SR 160 is more fun to ride, but the Aerox is easier to live with on a day to day basis. That really depends on what you value more.
There is something Italian about the Aprilia that the Yamaha can’t match. Not always about practicality, sometimes you just want something that you smile every time you look at it.
I think the Aerox is the better all rounder. While it is not quite so sporty as the SR 160, it is better on comfort and fuel efficiency. And Yamaha's service network is a lot better than Aprilia's in the majority of places.
