Has the Yamaha FZ6R gone the way of the Dodo and become irrelevant in 2025, or is it still worth your time?

Yamaha FZ6R was a popular choice for beginners and experienced riders since it was introduced. Entering 2025, technology, performance and design have seen a huge change in the motorcycle landscape. Riders have debated as whether the FZ6R is still enough of a machine to do its thing, or if it has begun to fade in the shadow of newer models. It may be simple and reliable, argue some, others feel it is without the features and performance of modern bikes. Usually, the bike's power delivery and handling characteristics, and the lack of advanced electronics are discussed. We also talk about what the value proposition is when buying a used FZ6R versus buying a new one and how that bike…could be a factory rip off you could turn into the biker's equivalent of an SX2 and then just throw into something completely different.

Absolutely still relevant! The simplicity of the FZ6R is its strength. Just pure riding experience, no fancy electronics to go wrong.

It's outdated, man. Today's 650 twins give better performance for similar dollars. It feels ancient compared to the FZ6R.

Depends on what you're after. It’s still solid for a reliable commuter or beginner bike. If you’re after cutting edge tech, though, you’re out of luck.

I think that's more relevant now than it was back then. So with all these complicated bikes out there, it's nice to have something so straightforward.

It's a dinosaur in 2025. No riding modes, the power delivery is so 2010, basic ABS at best. Time to move on, Yamaha.

It’s a good pair of jeans like a FZ6R, never goes out of style. It's not flashy, but it works and works well.

It's hard to beat for the used market price. They’re known to last forever, and you get a lot of bike for the money.

I still love mine in 2025. It’s cheap to maintain and parts are cheap, and it does everything I need. Why complicate things?

Nakul on 31 December 2024 18:19
I actually think the lack of features is a plus. Nothing complicated to go wrong, just a pure riding experience.

It's a good bike still, but I'd go out and test ride some newer stuff before I'd pick it up. In the last few years, the market has really evolved.
