Does the VFR1200F cut the mustard?
Said storied history was predicated on Honda V4 engines and models such as the VFR750 and RC30 becoming legends. Meant to continue the legacy, the VFR1200F is powered by a 1,237cc V4 engine. But it’s divided opinions about whether it really represents its predecessors. There’s a segment of riders who love its smooth power delivery and unique character and a segment of riders who lament its lack of raw excitement compared with previous V4s. Often these debates are about engine sound, power characteristics, and riding the bike. The VFR1200F is also discussed by enthusiasts, how it stands against other V4 powered bikes, and how it manages to be modern technology and still have the spirit of the original classic Honda V4s.
Absolutely! The V4 of the VFR1200F is a masterpiece. It’s smooth, powerful, and has that wonderful V4 growl. The VFR legacy has a worthy successor.
The engine is great, but it is missing some of the character of the older VFRs. While it wasn't as powerful, for some reason I felt the VTEC 800 felt more exciting.
It depends, I think, on what you’re looking for. Maybe not if you want raw, visceral excitement. But not for a refined, powerful sport touring experience? It's spot on.
The V4 in the VFR1200F is a different animal from the ones before. It is more about effortless power and smoothness. I love it for what it is.
I can say that as someone who's owned several VFRs, the 1200F lives up to legacy. It was just evolved for modern times.
The engine is fantastic, but I really miss the gear driven cam sound of the older VFRs. But power and refinement more than make up for it.
Honda played it too safe, but it’s a great engine. I just wish they had given it a little more of that raw V4 character that we all love.
