Does the Hyundai Venue's safety package cut it, since the vehicle hasn't been given an official GNCAP rating?

Indian car buyers are now increasingly looking at GNCAP ratings before buying a car and safety is becoming a very important factor. The Hyundai Venue is a popular choice, but it’s not officially rated by GNCAP. It has been the subject of debates about its safety credentials. So how does the Venue’s safety package compare to rivals that do have GNCAP ratings, such as the Tata Nexon or Mahindra XUV300? Is six airbags and electronic stability control enough to offset the fact that this car hasn't been crash tested? We’ll examine their experience of minor accidents or near-misses, and if the build quality leaves one with confidence that the car will be safe. Is a GNCAP rating a must have or do the safety features on offer on most models suffice?

It does bother me a bit that there is no GNCAP rating. The Venue does have a good set of safety features, though. For the segment, six airbags and ESC are pretty good. It makes me feel safe in it, but an official rating would have been reassuring.

I don’t think we obsess enough about GNCAP ratings. It’s well built and has all the essential safety tech. It's probably as safe in the real world as most 4 star rated cars.

The Venue feels like a tank to me as compared to an older car. But I do wonder if I made the right choice safety wise compared to something like a Nexon or XUV300 which have 5 star ratings.

My Venue had a minor fender bender and it held up really well. The crumple zones had done their job and the cabin didn’t feel torn apart. I knew it would be safe, GNCAP rating or not.

On paper, the safety features are good, but without a GNCAP rating, this is a big miss in today’s market. Without that standardized test, it's hard to objectively compare it to rivals.

I believe Hyundai should have sent the Venue to GNCAP for testing. Buyer confidence isn't good with uncertainty. But it's likely safer than so many vehicles that were popular just a few years ago.

Crash test ratings are not the only thing that make for safety. The Venue's handling and braking make it a car you could feel confident in avoiding accidents in the first place. People often overlook that aspect of safety.
