Do you have to give up some driving dynamics to get the Baleno’s space and comfort?
The Baleno is often well regarded for its large interior and comfortable ride, given its small footprint. But in its focus on comfort and practicality, some enthusiasts have bashed its handling, complaining that it feels far less sporty than some competitors. The other hot button topic is suspension tuning, which leans towards ride comfort over handling prowess. Some owners like the balance, calling it perfectly suited to Indian road conditions, while others feel it is too soft and does not engage. Space, comfort and driving fun are key considerations for buyers in this segment, but it’s a trade off. Balancing these aspects in real world use is something that can make or break a buyer’s decision, and understanding how the Baleno does that in real world use, especially compared to rivals like the Hyundai i20 or Tata Altroz is important.
Absolutely worth it. For tall people like me, the Baleno’s space is a godsend. In this segment, it’s rare to find a car where you can actually sit comfortably in the back seat.
I disagree. I test drove the Baleno and the i20, but the i20 just felt a lot more fun to drive. On highways, the soft suspension of the Baleno makes it a little bit floaty.
Daily commuting and family use is something that the Baleno’s comfort fits in perfectly. Not all of us need or want a stiff, sporty ride. Every day my back thanks me for the comfort over the sportiness.
I believe Maruti found the right balance. The bad roads are comfortable enough, but it doesn’t feel like a boat. It isn’t a hot hatch, but it isn’t pretending to be one.
I do miss the sharp handling sometimes, as they come from a Honda. The extra space in the Baleno makes up for it, and I've never had the extra space in the Baleno when I've been hauling stuff or have passengers.
It’s great space, but I wish Maruti offered a stiffer suspension option for enthusiasts. It would not be hard to do and would make the car appeal to a wider audience.
I’ll take the Baleno’s comfort any day as a person who drives on pothole ridden roads regularly. Dodging craters doesn't make sporty dynamics worth much.
I find the Baleno actually quite fun to drive, just in a different way. It’s not about how hard you can corner, but how well you can progress smoothly. It can be satisfying in itself.
