Do the Kia Syros' sliding rear seats actually make sense, or are they just a gimmick?
Sliding rear seats are one of the standout features of the Kia Syros, something unusual in this segment. The flexibility of the interior space afforded by this feature offers the possibility of either increasing legroom or cargo space. The feature is up for debate though, whether it’s really that useful in day to day use. For some, it is a game changer for small families who want SUV like flexibility in a smaller package. But others wonder whether it's something that will be used frequently enough to warrant the probable additional expense and probable long term reliability issues. And there's talk about whether this feature on its own is enough to make the Syros stand out in a crowded market, or if it's just a marketing gimmick rather than a useful feature.

For someone tall with a small kid, it’s amazing. And I can have my seat all the way back and still have the kid comfortable behind me. These small things can make a big difference in the daily use.

It's solving a problem that doesn't really exist. People set their seat and forget about it. I prefer to have more total space than adjustable space.

It seems to me that it would be really handy for road trips. For long drives, adjust for more leg room, and then slide forward for more luggage space when you arrive. It's not revolutionary, but I like it.

It’s useful, but I wonder about long term durability. With time, sliding mechanisms can wear out. I’d like to see how they hold up after a few years of use.

It’s genuinely innovative for this segment, I think. It gives that extra flexibility that you normally only get in much bigger cars. It’s a game changer for small families or folks who occasionally need to carry around larger items.

Seems like a gimmick to me. How often will you actually be adjusting those seats? And it's just one more thing that can break down the line.

They're definitely useful. Having kids, the ability to adjust the space between car seats and cargo is a huge plus. It's sort of the mini-van feature in a compact car.
