Are the connected features on the Chetak 3501 really any good or just fancy distractions?

The Bajaj Chetak 3501 has a slew of connected features like 5 inch touchscreen display, smartphone integration and smart features including geofencing and remote diagnostics. While these high tech additions are becoming more and more common in the electric scooter market, there’s still debate about how useful they are and how they affect the riding experience. They say these features are just convenient and safe, helping riders stay connected and informed while they're on the move. But critics say these digital bells and whistles add little to the core functionality of the scooter — or perhaps distract from it, at the expense of rider attention and safety. The long term reliability of these electronic systems and how they may influence the overall vehicle lifespan and maintenance costs is also discussed. A few riders like that they can track the status and performance of their scooter from an app, and others find it overwhelming with so much data and options. It also often gets into the discussion about whether these features are actually necessary on a commuter vehicle or if they are just marketing gimmicks to help justify higher prices in a market where everyone is chasing each other in price.

It makes the whole experience better for me. The ability to plan my route, check range, and find charging stations all from the scooter’s display or my phone make owning an EV much more convenient.

They’re not essential but they are nice to have. I like the effort to innovate, but I’m afraid that these features will become obsolete quickly. Will Bajaj continue to update the software for years to come?

I'm concerned about privacy. When all these connected features come together, the company has a lot to know about my riding habits and locations. I think that it’s a bit Big Brother-ish.

As a tech enthusiast, I’m all for these features. Things like maintenance alerts can even make things safer, and they just make the ride more enjoyable in general. It is making scooters 21st century.

There are some features that are useful, and some that are not so useful. The music controls are great, but I don’t use it for the geofencing because it’s great for security. Whether it’s worth it is a mixed bag, it depends on what you need personally.

They are nothing but expensive distractions. I don’t want my scooter to be a smartphone on wheels. I’d rather pay a little less and have the basics – better range or faster charging time.

The connected features are great! I feel more comfortable having the ability to check my scooters status on my phone. The display’s navigation is super handy for exploring new areas, too.
