The stock seat is fine for a few hours, but after that, my butt starts to complain. Touring definitely warrants an aftermarket option.

The R's seat is definitely more off-road focused and less comfy on longer highway stretches. If you do most of your riding on the road, consider swapping it.

I threw an Airhawk cushion on the stock seat, and now it’s perfect for long days. Also cheaper than a whole new seat.

I replaced mine with a Seat Concepts kit. Long rides are a night-and-day difference. The best upgrade I've made to the bike.

The stock seat locks you into one position, and that shape of the seat is not comfortable over time. A lot of help comes from an aftermarket seat with a flatter profile.

I've done a couple of weekend trips two up on my 890, and it goes surprisingly well. All that is needed is to adjust the preload, and it works fine.
