Compared to Japanese dual sports, how reliable is the KTM 690 Enduro?

I have had both, and my DR650 was bulletproof but boring. The 690 is a lot more fun to ride, but it needs more attention. The trade-off is worth it, and it’s reliable enough for me.

It’s closing, but it’s still there. They've improved a lot there, but they're not at Japanese levels. But the 690 is one of their more reliable models. And just budget for more frequent maintenance.

The reliability issues are exaggerated by people. It does need more maintenance than a Japanese bike, but it’s not like it’s constantly breaking down. As long as you follow the service schedule, you’ll be fine. It does require an extra bit of work, but the performance makes up for it.

I've owned both, and I'd say that the 690 is 80% as reliable as a Japanese dual sport. That last 20% really drives a huge boost in performance and capability. I’m willing to make that trade-off.
